When connoisseurs think of great Robustos, usually the Cohiba Robustos or the Partagas Serie D No. 4 cigars come to mind. However, the oft-overlooked Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2 cigars also fits in this group. Delivering a very flavorful and relaxing smoke, they balance rich creamy flavors with a warm mellow character.
Very well crafted using smooth, maduro wrappers, they have a solid feel in your hands. Their draw is relatively easy, though some may find it a little tight. An even combustion generates ample amounts of aromatic smoke.
Full-bodied Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2s have very distinct flavors that are not typically Cuban. Predominately woody at first, they build steadily towards a complex tangy, fruity texture with creamy cocoa, earthy and leather notes before taking a spicier, more peppery slant. Milder compared to those other great Robustos, Seleccion No. 2s become quite smooth during the last half of the smoke.
For many connoisseurs, these Robustos rate among the top five. They are also considered one of the best vitolas in the Juan Lopez cigars range.
