Montecristo Cuban Cigars
Introduction
Entirely handmade, the distinct flavor of Montecristo Cuban cigars has delighted cigar smokers so much so that for nearly two decades they have been the most widely appreciated brand from Habanos, accounting for nearly half of all Cuban cigar exports.
Introduced in 1935 by Menendez, Garcia y Cia. as a separate line of H. Upmann cigars, the name and logo were inspired from the Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel, Le Comte de Montecristo.
Initially, the brand was limited to only five sizes and not intended for wide distribution. However, due to strong marketing efforts by Alfred Dunhill of London Montecristos became very popular. Today, they are the de facto standard for judging other Havanas.
The Flavors of Montecristo Cigars
Made exclusively with Vuelta Abajo tobacco, Montecristo cigars are typically very aromatic with a slight tanginess. Very smooth and fragrant, Montecristos have a great draw and delightfully spicy taste.
Made with slightly oily colorado-claro wrappers and specially graded ligero leaves in the filler, Montecristos have a creamy mildness with complex earthy tones, rich chocolate notes, and a daunting aroma of roasted spice and vanilla.
Consistently well-made, the construction and aroma of this cigar brand is excellent.
