Por Larranaga Cuban Cigars

Introduction

Por Larranaga Cuban cigars – established in 1834 by Ignacio Larrañaga in Havana, what was once a respectable and popular premium cigar brand has today been reduced to one handmade model and a few lesser-quality, machine-assisted vitolas.

At the time of the Cuban Revolution, the brand was the sixth largest cigar manufacturer in the country. By the 1980s, production had fallen significantly and exports were reduced to a few countries. A Habanos local brand, today they are mostly available in Canada and the Middle East.

Recognized as the oldest premium brand in production, Por Larranaga cigars are still renowned for the quality and classy presentation of its cigars. Their dark, oily reddish-brown wrappers create a very nice contrast with the gold embossed cigar rings.

The Flavors of Por Larranaga Cigars

Generally associated with a caramel sweetness, Por Larranaga are rich and aromatic cigars with powerful flavors. They have an aroma that is less pronounced than other Cuban brands.

Their production is very limited, which means procuring them could prove to be quite difficult. Nevertheless, they are highly sought by aficionados who prefer traditional Cuban flavors. Medium-to-full bodied, these Cuban cigars age very well, including the machine-made varieties.

Por Larranaga Cigars Range

Perfect as after-dinner smokes, the quality of Por Larranaga cigars has never deviated in quality. For over a century, the brand has earned its well-deserved reputation for top-notch construction and the depth of its tobacco blend.

Some of the more popular cigars in the range are:

Por Larranaga Panetelas
Gauge: 37  |  Length: 127mm (5”)  |  Style: Medium

The mildest cigars in the range. Machine-made, hand-finished Por Larranaga Panetelas cigars are small but deliver a fulfilling spiciness. Woody and slightly sweet undertones provide a nice dimension, while nutty flavors and mild grassiness add to the complexity. These are nice, quick refreshing smokes.

Por Larranaga Petit Coronas
Gauge: 42  |  Length: 129mm (5 1/8 ”)  |  Style: Medium

Scored a 91 in the December 2006 issue of Cigar Aficionado. Por Larranaga Petit Coronas cigars have smooth caramel and vanilla notes with a distinct floral twist to the aroma. Delivering a unique spiciness, they’re considered to be one of the finest handrolled cigars. An excellent value.
